Jane Hansen, a former A Current Affair reporter, has died after an 18-month battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Hansen also worked as a war correspondent and print journalist for News Corp.

“To all that knew and loved my sister. Jane passed away peacefully at approximately 11.40pm 6 August,” a family statement said.

“Jane put up an amazing fight right till the end and never once complained, and never lost her sense of humour this whole time.”

In 2008 a controversial anonymous novel called Boned, which “blew the lid off” of the “blokey culture of commercial television”, was published.

Nine years later Hansen revealed she was a co-author of the fictional book.

While the book was fiction, the author said it drew inspiration from real-life experiences that Hansen and co-author Fiona McKenzie had witnessed in the industry.

“We felt that someone needed to take a stand,” Hansen wrote in the confessional.
