- ABC radio star reveals cancer diagnosis
ABC radio star James Valentine has revealed that he is about to have surgery to remove his oesophagus and is both hopeful and terrified.
In an article he wrote on the national broadcaster’s website, Valentine told his fans and listeners there was something he had to tell them and that he was going to tell them the end of the story first.
‘The end of the story is I’m going to be fine,’ he wrote. The beginning is I have cancer.’
He acknowledged that ‘If you open with that, no-one ever believes you’re going to be fine.
‘Cancer is a trigger word for just about everyone because your own body turning against you is a horrible thing and, for many, the course of the disease is ghastly, and for many it’s fatal.
‘That’s why my cancer so far has been kind of odd. ‘I’ve been fine. Right now, I’m completely fine.’
