Jameela Jamil has opened up about why she did not go through with her audition for the fourth season of Netflix hit series “You.”
The actress admitted that her value of not objectifying herself was why she dropped out of the running to star opposite the show’s lead, Penn Badgley. One can only assume that she would not make the same decision if she got a second chance today, as the series has since become one of the hottest to watch on Netflix, with a 94% rating from Rotten Tomatoes.
Jameela Jamil Backed Out Of ‘You’ Audition Due To Multiple Sex Scenes In The Script
As someone who stands up for what she believes in, it is no surprise that Jamil’s decision not to partake in auditions for a character on “You” was influenced by her convictions. The “Good Place” star recently confessed to Badgley, Nava Kavelin, and Sophie Ansari on their “Podcrushed” podcast that she turned down the opportunity to appear in the show because she does not “do sex scenes.”

The activist had begun by mentioning that she has never been the type to enjoy “objectifying myself” due in part to her “deep childhood sexual trauma stuff.” She then said:
“Generally, I feel quite protective of myself in that way. Like, I don’t do sex scenes. In fact, I was supposed to audition for the most recent season of your show. My character was supposed to be quite sexy, and I pulled out of the audition because I am so shy about anything sexy that I can’t.”
Jamil, however, had a moment of regret after Badgley publicized his request to appear in fewer sex scenes on the psychological thriller because she had no idea that “was a boundary that we could draw.”
ICYMI, Badgley had revealed on the same podcast earlier this year that he had asked the showrunner, Sera Gamble, to limit his sex scenes in the fourth season. The lead, who made a name for himself on “The Young and The Restless,” stated at the time:
“This was actually a decision I had made before I took the show. I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned it publicly, but one of the main things is, Do I want to put myself back on a career path where I’m always [the] romantic lead?”

Unfortunately, his choice earned him a public backlash, prompting him to explain that he was not referring to the “final product” but to Hollywood’s “history of flagrant exploitation and abuse.” He also conceded that his decision might impact the projects he chooses to sign onto in the future.
‘Good Place’ Actress Slammed Hollywood Co-Stars For Attending 2023 Met Gala
Aside from putting her foot down on sex-related projects, Jamil made news headlines last week after calling out multiple female celebs for attending the Met Gala, especially since it honored the late Karl Lagerfeld.

For those who do not know, in addition to being one of the most decorated fashion designers in history, the late German native had a knack for controversial takes that were racist, fatphobic, and misogynistic.
That character trait is one that the model believed should have stopped notable female feminists from honoring him, The Blast disclosed. Taking to Instagram to bash Gala’s attendees for “selective cancel culture,” the “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” wrote:
“Last night, Hollywood and fashion said the quiet part out loud when many famous feminists chose to celebrate at the highest level, a man who was so publicly cruel to women, too [sic] fat people, to immigrants, and to sexual assault survivors.”
“Suddenly, your appetite to find someone’s tweets from when they were 12 has gone. Nobody has perfect morals, least of all me, but Jesus Christ, we had a year to course correct here and not award the highest honor possible to a known bigot,” the “Legendary” judge added. Continuing in the post’s caption, Jamil pointed out that the discussion went beyond Lagerfeld, declaring:
“It’s about showing how selective cancel culture is within liberal politics, in the most blatant way so far. It’s about showing why people don’t trust liberals. Because of slippery tactics and double standards like this.”
She then claimed that even the “general public” was “entirely complicit in the erasure of the truth” during the event, which was held on May 1. The “Marry Me” actress declared that if things continued like this, nobody should “be shocked when we lose the next election.”
