Jaclyn Symes will be sworn in as Victoria’s new treasurer tomorrow, becoming the first woman to serve in the role.

The Northern Victoria MP is currently serving as the attorney-general and emergency services minister.

Pallas, who said he was the longest-serving standalone state treasurer, having stepped into the job in 2014 when Daniel Andrews became premier, said it was a “great honour and privilege” to serve the people of Victoria.

Reflecting on his career and explaining his decision to resign, Pallas said he felt it was “simply his time to go”.
