An 18-year-old man has been charged after five teenagers died in a crash at Buxton, south-west of Sydney.

Police arrested Tyrell Edwards yesterday afternoon after he was released from hospital, having suffered non-life-threatening injuries when the Nissan ute he was driving went off the road and crashed into a tree about 7.50pm on Tuesday.

Just after 10pm yesterday, police said an 18-year-old had been charged with “five counts of dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous”.

He was refused bail and is set to face Picton Local Court later today.

The victims — three teenage girls, two aged 14 and one aged 15, and two teenage boys, 15 and 16 — died at the scene.
