At least three Palestinians have been killed and 20 others injured after an Israeli air strike hit Bani Suhaila, a town east of Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip, health officials on Monday said.

Harrowing pictures showed children covered in blood being treated by medics at the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis after the airstrikes.

U.S. and international forces in northeastern Syria were attacked with drones and rockets at least four times in the past 24 hours, though there were no casualties and only minor damage, a U.S. military official said on Monday.

U.S. forces came under attack three times on Sunday evening, including near the Al Omar Oil field and at a U.S. base at al-Shaddadi, the official told Reuters.

Multiple drones were fired at U.S. forces at the Rumalyn Landing Zone on Monday morning, the official said. One drone was shot down but another damaged four tents, the official added.

The attacks came after the U.S. carried out two air strikes on Sunday against facilities it said were used by Iran-aligned groups, its third set of strikes in Syria in as many weeks.

The hospitals in northern Gaza were no longer functioning amid fuel shortages and intense combat, with the death toll inside the territory’s largest facility rising, the Hamas-run health ministry said Monday.

• Israel argues its Hamas enemies built their military headquarters under the Al-Shifa hospital complex, while UN agencies and doctors in the facility warned a lack of generator fuel was claiming lives, including infants.
• Witnesses reported intense overnight air strikes, with tanks and armoured vehicles just meters from the gate of the sprawling Al-Shifa compound at the heart of Gaza City, now an urban war zone.
• The Hamas government’s deputy health minister Youssef Abu Rish said the death toll inside Al-Shifa rose to 27 adult intensive care patients and seven babies since the weekend as the facility suffered fuel shortages.

• Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh called on the European Union and the United Nations to ‘parachute aid’ into the Gaza Strip.
• ‘I call on the United Nations and the European Union to parachute aid into the Gaza Strip, especially the north,’ he said, referring to the area where fighting is most intense.

The IDF says it has killed 21 Hamas terrorists who it claims were ’embedded’ among civilians at the al Quds hospital in Gaza City.

The shooting was carried out by a terrorist squad that had embedded itself within a group of civilians at the entrance of the hospital.

After the terrorists fired RPGs, they returned to hide in the hospital… During the incident, about 21 terrorists were killed and there were no casualties to our forces.

This incident is another example of Hamas’s continued abuse of civilian structures, including hospitals, to carry out attacks.

Jordan’s King Abdullah rejects any plans by Israel to occupy parts of Gaza or to create security zones within the enclave, state media said on Monday.

• In comments he made at the royal palace, the king was quoted as telling senior politicians he met as saying there could be ‘no military or security solution’ to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.
• He said the war-ravaged enclave of Gaza should not be severed by Israel from the other Palestinian Territories.

Greta Thunberg today came under fire over her pro-Palestine stance in Germany, where the local chapter of climate movement Fridays for Future distanced itself from the climate protester’s views on the Israel-Hamas war.

Thunberg, wearing the Palestinian black and white scarf, had urged ‘ceasefire now’ at a climate protest in Amsterdam on Sunday before a man grabbed her microphone and said, ‘I’ve come for a climate demonstration, not a political view’.

Thunberg had accused ‘the people in power of not listening’ to the ‘voices of those who are being oppressed’ in the Gaza Strip during her speech in front of tens of thousands of climate protesters.

Her comments in Amsterdam marked ‘the end of Greta Thunberg as a climate activist,’ said Volker Becker, the president of the German-Israel Society DIG, adding that ‘from now: Israel hater is the main job’ for the Swedish activist.

• Staff at the United Nations offices observed a minute’s silence to honour the 101 aid workers killed in Gaza since the war broke out.
• ‘This is the highest number of aid workers killed in the history of our organisation in such a short time,’ said Tatiana Valovaya, director-general of the UN in Geneva.

• Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s son is fighting in Gaza, his wife has revealed.
• ‘We have not had any contact with him for some time, but we have hope,’ Michal Herzog told the Kan public broadcaster.
• The couple has three sons – it is not clear which is among the hundreds of thousands of Israelis called up to fight.

• The IDF says it has carried out 4,300 strikes since its ground offensive in Gaza began.
• It said on X that hundreds of anti-tank launching positions, around 300 tunnel shafts, and 3,000 Hamas infrastructure sites had been hit.

• The 27 members of the European Union have jointly condemned Hamas for what they described as the use of hospitals and civilians as ‘human shields’ in the war against Israel.
• EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell said that the bloc at the same time was asking Israel ‘for maximum restraint and targeting in order to avoid human casualties’.

Israeli forces today reached the gates of Gaza City’s main hospital under which the IDF has insisted Hamas terrorists have their headquarters in makeshift tunnels.

Scores of Israeli soldiers and tanks have now surrounded the sprawling Al Shifa hospital where thousands of patients and civilians remain trapped in what could be a pivotal moment in the bloody war.

Israeli forces appear ready to enter the hospital where they have consistently insisted that Hamas terrorists are hiding in underground tunnels beneath the building and using the patients as shields.

The U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees said Monday that Israel’s navy struck one of its facilities in southern Gaza, despite sharing coordinates with warring parties.

The agency, known as UNRWA, said Sunday’s strike caused ‘significant damage’ to its guesthouse in Rafah, adding that no casualties were reported since U.N. staff left the facility 90 minutes before the attack.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military.

‘This recent attack is yet another indication that nowhere in Gaza is safe. Not the north, not the middle areas and not the south,’ said UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini.

At least 32 hospital patients from Gaza’s Al Shifa hospital have died over the past three days, the spokesman for the Palestinian health ministry, Ashraf Al Qidra, said on Monday.

The dead include three premature babies, Al Qidra added.

Operations in Al Shifa hospital complex, the largest in the Palestinian enclave, were suspended on Saturday after it ran out of fuel.

Ireland’s deputy premier has announced he is to travel to Israel and the Palestinian territory later this week.

• ‘In Egypt, I hope to meet with foreign minister Sameh Shoukry and secretary general of the Arab League, Aboul Gheit.
• ‘In Israel, I plan to see foreign minister Eli Cohen and hope also to visit the south of Israel and the communities that were devastated by the October 7 attacks.’

Israel said it was poised to impose quiet on the Lebanese front as hostilities spiked on Sunday, with Hezbollah wounding civilians in a cross-border missile attack and the Israeli Air Force bombing sites linked to the Iranian-backed group.

• The chief Israeli military spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, described Hezbollah as ‘the defender of Hamas-ISIS’, in reference to the Islamist Palestinian faction whose cross-border rampage against Israel on Oct. 7 sparked a devastating Gaza war.
• Hezbollah, whose rocket arsenal is widely believed to dwarf that of Hamas, has been carrying out relatively limited attacks in solidarity with the Palestinians. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Saturday described the Israel front as ‘active’.
• On Sunday, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for a guided missile attack that Israel said wounded at least two electrical company workers sent to carry out repairs at a border community.
• A mortar attack wounded seven Israeli soldiers, the military said. A rocket set off sirens near the Israeli port city of Haifa, 17 miles from the Lebanese border, but caused no casualties. A Lebanese wing of Hamas took credit for the launch.

The EU’s humanitarian aid chief called Monday for ‘meaningful’ pauses in the fighting in Gaza and urgent deliveries of fuel to keep hospitals working in the territory.

• ‘It is urgent to define and respect humanitarian pauses,’ Janez Lenarcic, European Commissioner for Crisis Management, said at a meeting of the bloc’s foreign ministers in Brussels.
• ‘Fuel needs to get in. As you could see, more than half of the hospitals in the Gaza Strip stopped working, primarily because of lack of fuel, and fuel is desperately needed.’
• The appeal went out as battles between Israeli and Hamas forces have raged around Gaza’s largest hospital, which has become the focus in the five-week-old war.
• The Hamas-run health ministry said Monday the hospitals in the centre of the heaviest fighting in north Gaza have been forced out of service amid shortages and the fierce combat.

Israel’s military said it would observe a ‘self-evacuation corridor’ Monday, allowing people to move from Al-Shifa southward, but admitted the area was still the scene of ‘intense battles.’

• The area of fighting ‘currently includes the area surrounding the Shifa hospital but not the hospital itself’, a spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces said.
• Israeli forces and Hamas gunmen have waged heavy battles outside Shifa, and some hospital officials have said Shifa was under siege, with those inside being pinned down by Israeli fire. Israel has said it had offered safe passage to those wanting to leave.
• Many displaced Palestinians, along with some medical patients, have left Gaza’s largest hospital, which is surrounded by Israeli forces, a U.N. health official said Monday.
• About 650 patients, 500 healthcare workers and an estimated 2,500 displaced people remain in the sprawling Shifa hospital compound, said Mohammed Zaqout, director of hospitals in Gaza.
• This would signal a significant departure since the weekend when Gaza health officials had said about 1,500 patients, along with 1,500 medical workers and 15,000 displaced people were at Shifa.
• The situation at Shifa deteriorated over the weekend, with doctors reporting that the last generator had run out of fuel, leading to the deaths of several patients, including premature babies.

The Israeli army on Monday announced the death of two additional soldiers in northern Gaza, raising to 44 the number killed in the Palestinian territory since October 7.

An army spokesperson told AFP that 44 were killed “inside Gaza during the war” that began when Hamas militants stormed Israel’s southern border.

• Israel’s military asserted it placed 300 liters of fuel near Shifa overnight for an emergency generator powering incubators for premature babies and coordinated the delivery with hospital officials. But the military said Hamas prevented the hospital from receiving the fuel.
• A Health Ministry spokesperson, Ashraf al-Qidra, disputed the account and also told Al Jazeera the fuel would not be enough to operate the generator an hour. ‘This is a mockery towards the patients and children,’ Al-Qidra said.
• Israeli PM Netanyahu asserted that ‘100 or so’ people had been evacuated from Shifa and that Israel had created safe corridors.
• But Health Ministry Undersecretary Munir al-Boursh said Israeli snipers have deployed around Shifa, firing at any movement.

• None of the hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip are operational, the Hamas-run health ministry has declared

• Youssef Abu Rish, deputy health minister in the Gaza Strip, said the new deaths brought the toll to six premature babies and nine patients since electric shortages began affecting the hospital.
