A one-day-old baby girl who was taken from a hospital in Queensland is ‘safe’  according to her grandmother after police claimed she was at ‘significant risk’.

The newborn was seen being placed into a white Suzuki Liana with the registration 095HI8 by two women at Ipswich Hospital on Monday.

It’s understood Khloe Bornen, 18, discharged herself and the baby from hospital prompting health providers to raise concerns with Queensland Police.

Officers were asked to check on Ms Bornen and the infant at her home, but when they arrived the pair were nowhere to be seen.

Police on Tuesday issued an urgent amber alert for the public’s help locating the mother and daughter, saying the child could be at ‘significant risk’.

Now, the baby’s grandmother has questioned the need for an amber alert, claiming in a social media post that the baby is safe and being looked after.

‘Khloe n baby r safe and well I’ve done what any mum would do to protect her child n grand child and she left our home not the hospital lien amber alerts,’ she wrote to Facebook on Wednesday morning.

Ms Bornen accused the amber alert of being a ‘discrimination of lies’.

It was earlier reported the baby had been taken from Ipswich Hospital, however this was disputed by West Moreton Health chief executive Hannah Bloch.

‘The mother discharged herself and her child soon after giving birth,’ she said.

‘I am disclosing this information in the public interest so women can continue to feel safe giving birth at Ipswich Hospital.

‘This was an isolated incident and the healthcare provided to mother and baby is not in question.’

Khloe and the baby are yet to be located by police.

The 18-year-old is described as white, around 165cm tall, with a proportionate build and brown hair. Pictures released by the police show her wearing a nose ring.

Police are now appealing for the public’s help to find the mother and daughter and have urged anyone with information to call 000 or 131 564.
