Greg Lynn, 57, is in prison awaiting sentencing after being found guilty of murdering Carolyn Clay

  • He killed missing camper Carolyn Clay in 2020
  • He was found not guilty of killing her lover Russell Hill

Convicted camper killer Greg Lynn has made other prisoners jealous by securing a cell with a nice view and a coveted jailhouse job – but has become a target, too, a new report has revealed.

The ex-Jetstar pilot was pelted with human faeces at the Melbourne Assessment centre this month – days after he was found guilty of murdering Carolyn Clay, 73, but not guilty of the murder of Russell Hill, 74, who were both killed while camping in Victoria’s Wonnangatta region in 2020.

Now, a prison source has lifted the lid on the reason for the disgusting attack and why Lynn does not mix with other prisoners behind bars.

‘Lynn does not show normal traits of a run-of-the-mill prisoner,’ the prison source told the Herald Sun.

‘He is aloof, arrogant and entitled and the other prisoners do not like him.

‘He is not part of any criminal network which is why he is isolated and why he was attacked.’

The source said fellow prisoners also resent the power Lynn, 57,  has after he secured his prison unit’s head billets job – a coveted and lucrative role which involves running the food line and ordering other billets to do work.

The source said Lynn’s application for the job was initially knocked back but later overruled.

Another cause for envy, according to the source, is that Lynn occupies prime real estate within the prison – a corner cell with a view to Spencer St and no adjoining cell to the north.

The cell is one of the quietest in the prison, where Lynn is currently being held as he awaits sentencing.

Ms Clay and Mr Hill, who had a longstanding affair, were camping in the Wonnangatta Valley in Victoria’s Alpine region when they were reported missing on March 20, 2020.

Lynn was arrested about 18 months later and led detectives to their bushland graves.

He pleaded not guilty to both murders, claiming Mr Hill stole his gun from his car during an argument and that it accidentally went off, killing Ms Clay, while the two men were wrestling to gain control of the weapon.

He claimed that Mr Hill, devastated by Ms Clay’s death, then lunged at him with a knife, and the older man was accidentally killed during the ensuing skirmish.

Lynn is next due before the Supreme Court on Friday for a pre-sentence hearing.
