Insane: Liberals Contributing Hundreds of Thousands to Defend Karmelo Anthony

So…High School kids from two different schools get into a dispute at a sports event. It’s the sort of thing that happens every day because, well, High School. No punches were thrown, which is good. But one of the students is stabbed in the heart, which isn’t.

According to the police and witnesses, the sequence of events is pretty clear-cut:

The bloody ordeal unfolded after Metcalf, a Memorial High School junior, had asked Anthony to move from underneath his school’s pop-up tent during a rain delay at the meet, according to an arrest report.

Anthony, who went to nearby Centennial High School, immediately unzipped a bag, reached inside and told Metcalf, “touch me and see what happens,” a witness told police.

Moments later, Metcalf “grabbed Anthony to tell him to move and Anthony pulled out … a black knife and stabbed Austin once in the chest,” cops said.

Metcalf died in his twin brother Hunter’s arms.

So clear cut, in fact, that there has been a campaign that has included fake police statements, doctored photos, and completely invented narratives changing the sequence of events in order to create an alternate reality that makes it look like Karmelo Anthony was in fear for his life.

Karmelo must have been in a lot of fear before he went to the track meet, given that he had a knife in his bag in easy reach, because as far as I know knives capable of killing someone in a single blow are not standard equipment for a track meet.

Just sayin’.

In the wake of the stabbing, something remarkable has happened: a vast swath of the left and in the black community have rushed to the defense of Anthony, claiming that the man who murdered another was the real victim, and they are now raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund his defense.

It’s Luigi Mangione plus George Floyd meeting at the leftist loony bin.

There are 12 fundraisers on GoFundMe for Karmelo’s defense fund, and TikTok is filled with people explaining that Austin Metcalf deserved to be killed because, well, he shouldn’t anger a black kid.

We are being subjected to the same propaganda push we always get in similar cases–a troubled, violent kid is suddenly turned into a saint. Narratives are invented like “Hands up, don’t shoot,” and photos are dug up showing the “victim” of racism is a nice, straight-A student who wouldn’t hurt a fly.

There isn’t a single person in the world who is currently arguing that Karmelo is an angel and Metcalf the Devil who wouldn’t reverse their positions in an instant were the races reversed. Everybody knows that even if they won’t say it out loud.

The rush to defend Karmelo Anthony isn’t just about race, though, but is a symptom of the intersectional social justice thinking that suffuses the left. In this case, Karmelo Anthony is absolved because of his race, but the line of thinking is similar to the embrace of Luigi Mangione, who is white. Both are being excused based on ideological grounds.

Certain people get to kill others because they feel oppressed or are assumed to be oppressed. The oppression can even be generalized–Luigi wasn’t himself oppressed, but he was the Paladin for others who were in the eyes of the left. Michael Brown, Mr. “Hands Up Don’t Shoot,” was a victim not because he literally was innocent, had his hands up, or wasn’t trying to grab an officer’s gun–he was literally trying to grab the officer’s weapon to kill him–but because he became an avatar of oppression in general.

Reality, in other words, doesn’t matter. What matters is a Narrative™.

The same is true of George Floyd, who died of a drug overdose. The autopsy says he died of an overdose, wasn’t prevented from breathing normally, and the restraint technique used on him was taught by the Minneapolis police. He was a drug addict petty criminal who resisted arrest and used the “I can’t breathe” technique to avoid arrest multiple times on camera, going back years.

None of that matters, because, well, it conflicts with The Narrative™. So George Floyd has monuments to him around not just the country but the world. There is one here in Minneapolis, placed in the middle of a burned out area of the city.

So it shouldn’t surprise us that hundreds of thousands of dollars have flooded in to defend Anthony. The fact that he stabbed another boy in the heart is a minor detail in the story. What really matters is where his skin color places him in the grand hierarchy of humanity.

This kind of thinking mirrors that of any racist movement.
