The backpacker claimed the hotel's (pictured) promotional photos did not match up with reality

A young tourist has shared the shocking discovery she made after checking into what she thought was a luxurious four-star hotel in Bali.

Sophie, who is currently travelling southeast Asia with her boyfriend Sam, was horrified when she arrived at the hotel in Uluwatu and discovered it was mostly abandoned.

Speaking about her experience on TikTok, the British traveller claimed she had been a victim of false advertising as the photographs used to advertise the hotel were not accurate.

Sophie explained she booked what they thought was a luxury stay after spotting a ‘last-minute deal’.

On first glance the hotel seemed as expected and the couple checked in before making a horrifying discovery while exploring the grounds.

Sophie showed promotional images of the hotel which suggested their stay would be luxurious with a stunning pool but the reality was a different story.

‘The rooms are completely trashed, it looks awful,’ she said in the clip alongside scenes of a broken-in door revealing a rubbish-filled room.

One image showed overgrown balconies and abandoned rooms in direct contrast to the exact same scene shown in promotional images on the hotel’s website, which depicts the hotel as well presented with a stunning view.

Sophie also shared her horror at a ‘green and horrible’ swimming pool and broken gym equipment.

Sophie said the final straw was the colour of the water flowing from the sink in the room as she showed her followers her boyfriend filling up a cup with brown water.

TikTok users questioned why Sophie and her boyfriend had checked into the hotel but she explained the hotel had ‘looked normal’ at first.

‘When you turn up to the hotel you just see the front of the hotel and lobby which all looked normal,’ she said in the video’s comments.

‘Then you pass through to the other side to see the rest of the hotel and that’s when we saw everything.’

The couple are currently backpacking across southeast Asia and Sophie admitted she hadn’t been able to research accommodation as thoroughly as she would have liked.

However, she noted customers reviews were positive when she made the booking.

Sophie claimed she had come across people on the grounds of the hotel filming footage on abandoned buildings for YouTube.

The backpacker complained and received a refund despite the non-refundable clause on her original booking due to her claims of false advertising.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Sophie and the hotel in question for comment.
