A security guard at a shopping centre in Bendigo in central Victoria has been viciously bashed in an alleged gang attack.

The group of nine teenagers were filmed punching, kicking and dragging the guard to the ground before bystanders intervened and were also assaulted.

The brawl unfolded just after 4pm yesterday at Bendigo Marketplace, sending the centre into lockdown.

The offenders fled on foot when police arrived and are yet to be found.

The 20-year-old victim was treated by paramedics.

A statement from a Bendigo Marketplace spokesperson said centre management was “incredibly disappointed” and said it has handed over security footage to police.

“We have begun a security review of Bendigo Marketplace and will be increasing the security presence across the centre to ensure our customers, staff and tenants feel safe when working or visiting,” it said.
