A violent fight erupted on one of Sydney’s busiest highways on Wednesday morning, with two men throwing brutal punches and kicks while dodging traffic.

A truck driver filmed the bareknuckle brawl on the Hume Highway at Bass Hill and sent it to 2GB’s Ray Hadley, who was not impressed with the men’s disturbing behaviour, calling it ‘lunacy’.

Hadley described the road rage incident as ‘two blokes belting the tripe out of each other in the middle of traffic’.

‘The two idiots jump out of respective vehicles and have a punch on across six lanes of highway, three lanes on one side, three lanes on the other,’ he said.

‘And there’s cars making right hand turns, they’re stopping because (the men) are throwing punches in between vehicles.’

As cars screamed by the dangerous and highly volatile situation, onlookers tried to stop the fight.

‘One bloke in particular intervenes, brave fella that he is, in a hi-vis, obviously a tradie,’ Hadley said.

‘He gets out of wherever he is and comes over and tries to separate them.’

Hadley, like many viewers of the clip, initially thought one of the men fighting was a woman due to his long pony tail.

The brawl went into the median strip and across opposing lanes of traffic, with one of the fighters’ trousers falling down, exposing his bare bottom.

But between punches, he took an opportunity to hitch up his track pants and keep on brawling, all the while blocking and disrupting traffic.

After the peace maker had some success in breaking up the fight and getting the pony-tailed man back into his van, it all kicked off again.

He twice returned to the van and twice got back out for more, before the fight finally ended and the men went their separate ways.
