When it comes to cleaning I think I fit happily in the mid-weight category – I wash my sheets once a week but I don’t attack grout with a toothbrush.
I also live in a rental with 15-plus year-old carpet and must admit the threadbare flooring isn’t something I would bother investing much time, energy or money into.
But there is – or should day was – one patch of carpet in the loungeroom I felt particularly guilty about.

The stain was an aggressive black streak of acrylic paint, left, and looked much better after my first attempt at cleaning (wet carpet right)
The patch in question made using acrylic paint by a friend’s three-year-old during a rather exciting art session.
I had done my best to get the black streak out of the carpet at the time but things were still pretty dire.
When a quick scrub didn’t work I did what most reasonable adults in my position would do.. I put a nice rug over it and figured I would deal with it ‘later’.
‘Later’ didn’t come on move-out day as I expected but when Godfreys asked me to trial the Tineco machine.
I spent 15 minutes putting the thing together, learning how to use it and working on the stain.
I was shocked when it was all-but gone.

Obviously I did this just before ‘bed time’ so I let it air dry.
The next day I gave the stain ten more minutes of my time, this time using the dry setting and now I have another problem.

The stain is all-but gone after my second attempt – and the surrounding carpet in much better condition than the carpet in the rest of the house
A 50cm patch of carpet in my living room is much cleaner than any of the other carpet in the house.
I have been recommending this machine to everyone.
Which is off-brand because typically I wouldn’t have looked at this expensive gadget twice.
Now all my mum friends and dogs-inside friends have heard all about it.
I got a bit addicted and used the furniture attachment to tackle grubby bits on the couch – they came up looking grand.
Next time I feel that weird burst of energy which calls for something to be cleaned immediately I will try it on my mattress.
The Tineco Carpet one pro can be purchased at Godfreys for $999.
