A man was fatally stabbed on Shellharbour Road in Dunmore shortly before 8pm on Tuesday

A young man has been stabbed to death with the knifeman still on the run.

The man was attacked on Shellharbour Road in Dunmore, on the NSW South Coast, shortly before 3pm on Tuesday.

Paramedics attempted to treat the man but he died at the scene.

He is yet to be formally identified. 

‘A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death has commenced, with the assistance of the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad,’ NSW Police said in a statement.

Photos showed several officers and paramedics at the scene, across the road from several homes.
