A horrified French father returned home to find his family’s three children brutally stabbed to death yesterday.

The man, who has not yet been named, found the children, two boys aged two and 11, and a 13-year-old girl, dead in their home in Taninges, a ski town near France’s border with Switzerland, with several stab wounds on Tuesday at around midday.

The distraught man, who was the father of the youngest child, immediately called emergency services but they were too late.

The blended family’s mother, a 45-year-old woman who local media reported suffered from depression, is currently missing and is considered a key suspect in the children’s tragic deaths, which is now being investigated as an ‘intentional homicide’.

According to French newspaper Le Dauphiné Libéré, she left a letter and then headed towards the mountains surrounding the town. It is not currently known what the letter said.

Le Parisien reported that 60 French cops are currently searching for her, supported by helicopters and diving squads.

Cops are currently interviewing the family’s relatives. The investigation has been handed over to the Bonneville public prosecutor’s office.

The shocking Alps killing comes after two small children were last week found decapitated in a bathtub on the French island of Guadeloupe.

The bodies of the mutilated four-year-old and 13-month-old siblings were discovered by their distressed father in their family home.

The children’s mother, the prime murder suspect, was found naked and wandering the streets by two police officers after the alarm was raised.

According to French outlet Le Parisien, the woman, who is believed to be in her forties, was speaking incoherently and was unable to explain the reasons for her actions when approached by police.

According to public prosecutor Caroline Talbo, the woman was initially taken into custody and then released due to her mental state, and has since been hospitalised.
