A California woman was left unrecognizable after she was horrifically attacked and raped by a homeless man while walking her dogs.
Marissa Young, 44, of Torrance, was brutally assaulted on July 31 by Darrel Waters, 46, who was freed on knife charges by woke DA George Gascon just days beforehand.
She was on a walk near a field when she was ‘tackled from behind’ and raped by the homeless man – who also knocked out eight of her teeth during the ordeal.
‘I heard nothing,’ she told KTLA. ‘I didn’t have headphones in, I wasn’t looking at my phone, I was just walking straight forward to my destination.’
He brutally attacked her, pushing her to the ground and punching her ‘at least’ 20 times, shattering her nose in four spots, breaking her cheekbone, knocking out eight teeth, and raping her.

She had five surgeries in three months and still suffers from facial swelling and is unable to work. She does, however, plan to go to nursing school soon
‘You can still see a lot of swelling in my face,’ she said.
Her injuries caused doctors to have to wire her jaw shut and she will need eight dental implants – that could cost up to $24,000 for the implant alone, not the extraction – and therapy to combat her Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
She was able to get dental surgery on October 14, after doctors were able to unwire her jaw – two and a half months after the attack.
In total, she had five surgeries done over the course of three months and has not been able to work.
‘For those that know her, you know how much she likes to laugh…being able to do so without being self-conscious about her teeth will be a huge step forward. It will take time, but having her beautiful smile back will make a huge difference in restoring her sense of self,’ her friend Debbie Keyser said on the GoFundMe.
Police managed to track Waters down on August 1 and he is currently being held without bail and has been charged with three felonies, according to the fundraising page.

He attacked her, pushing her to the ground and punching her ‘at least’ 20 times, shattering her nose in four spots, breaking her cheekbone. In addition to the rape, he also knocked out eight of her teeth and caused to developed PTSD

Police identified him on surveillance footage from the night of the attack (pictured)
He was charged with rape, oral copulation, and sexual penetration with force.
Waters was seen on surveillance footage wearing a dark, baggy outfit wandering near a dumpster the night of the attack.
Just days earlier, he had been arrested for illegally having a dagger, but was released.
Torrance City Attorney’s Office – which falls under the LA County District Attorney’s Office – said Waters release was ‘in accordance with the penal code.’
‘It makes me angry,’ Young told KTLA. ‘It’s horrifying to think that they were holding this guy with a huge knife that was taken off him that’s illegal and he was let go the next day even though he has a record.
‘Once something like this happens to you, it sort of changes your mind as to what the laws should be.’
Despite her horrific injuries and her ongoing healing process, Keyser said Young is still planning on starting nursing school soon.
DailyMail.com has attempted to contact Keyser and Young for comment.

Young is ‘angered’ that her attacker was released just days before her attack. She said: ‘It’s horrifying to think that they were holding this guy with a huge knife that was taken off him that’s illegal and he was let go the next day even though he has a record’

The Torrance Attorney’s Office – which is under George Gascon’s Office – said Waters was released ‘in accordance with penal code.’ Gascon has been criticized on multiple occasions for being to ‘soft on crime’
