A Melbourne man was only a few minutes away from a potential confrontation with a group of six burglars who stole three cars from his home.

Anthony Benzoni had gone to the gym at 5am today, returning home at 5.55am.

But ten minutes before he came back home to his Beaumaris house, the property had been burgled.

His CCTV showed six youths come in via the doggy door, snipping a lock to enter.

The group stole wallets, watches and the keys to three cars.

The group then made off with a black Mazda MX5, a silver Audi Q5 and a black BMW X3.

“I’ve got a great little labradoodle,” Benzoni told 9News.

“It doesn’t do much, but yeah, they were out the back, patting him, talking as if it was just a day out.”

Benzoni lamented the brazenness of the crime.

“There’s no repercussions. There’s no chance of going to jail,” he said.

“If they get caught, what will happen the next day? They’ll be out and they’ll be doing it all again.”

The investigation remains ongoing.

Beaumaris is a suburb on Port Philip Bay in Melbourne’s south-east.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam or CCTV footage of the riders in the area or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
