During an interview with Page Six, the legendary comedian and actress, set to celebrate a milestone birthday of 90 years on April 26th, 2023, shared that she still feels eleven years old.

Burnett has been a fixture of American television and film for over six decades, with astronomical influence on comedy and entertainment.

She was born in San Antonio, Texas, in 1933 and began honing her craft at a young age. In 1959, she landed a role in the Broadway musical “Once Upon a Mattress,” which became a huge success and helped launch her career.

It wasn’t until the 1960s and 1970s that Burnett became a household name, thanks to her groundbreaking television variety show, “The Carol Burnett Show.” The series ran for 11 seasons and featured some of television’s most beloved and iconic sketches.

Burnett will be honored with a new TV special to commemorate her 90th birthday, titled “Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love,” per Page Six.

According to the news outlet, the show was filmed last month but will air on NBC on April 26th, 2023, Burnett’s actual birthday, and will line up an array of celebrity guests who will pay tribute to her and her agelong career.

“I was gobsmacked by the evening,” she shared. “It was incredible. It’s not a birthday party. It’s not a roast. It’s a variety show.”

She Doesn’t Think Her Hit Show Could Air Today

In her interview with Page Six, Burnett divulged her reservations about the current viability of “The Carol Burnett Show,” airing on today’s TV.

“I don’t think a network would go for what we did,” she told the news outlet. “We had a 28-piece live orchestra, we had 12 dancers, we had two guest stars a week, and Bob Mackie designed—get this—60 to 75 costumes a week, everything everybody wore in all the sketches and all the musical numbers, on and on and on.”

She continued, “And no network today would spend that money. The money that it would cost today would be astronomical. So they’re not going to go for it. And you know, they feel that variety is dead, which I don’t believe it is.”

“There are many people who could do a variety show, but … they couldn’t do what we did because of the cost. That’s the problem. That’s why there aren’t any shows like ours or Dean Martin, or any of those, you know, can’t happen today.”

Despite approaching her 90th birthday, Burnett is showing no sign of slowing down as she continues to work on new projects.

One of Burnett’s recent projects is “A Little Help with Carol Burnett,” a Netflix series premiered in 2018. The show featured Burnett and a group of children offering humorous and often insightful advice to celebrity guests on various topics.

She also featured in the final season of “Better Call Saul” last year and is set to appear in an upcoming Apple TV+ miniseries, “Mrs. American Pie,” with Kristen Wiig, Allison Janney, and Laura Dern, per Page Six.

“I’m just so fortunate, at this age, to be able to get in the sandbox and play with people,” she said.
