One of Australia’s most iconic logos has been hiding two surprising details.
The golden Commonwealth Bank diamond, which was first introduced in 1991, is based on the formation of the Southern Cross constellation.

The diamond logo features prominently at Commonwealth Bank locations across Australia
Each corner represents one of the five stars, with the black wedge completing the diamond shape.
‘The designer made the dark yellow part resemble the constellation Southern Cross, and a small black corner gave the figure a diamond shape,’ a logo expert from Logos World explained.
Commonwealth Bank says there is another detail in the logo Aussies regularly miss.
The two m letters merge to form one that few people tend to notice at first glance.
Aussies have been left shocked after making the discovery.

‘Just found out the Commonwealth Bank logo is a black and yellow rendition of the Southern Cross constellation.. IS THIS NEWS TO ANYONE ELSE?’ one said.
‘Fun fact I learnt today: The Commonwealth Bank logo is supposed to be an abstract artwork of the Southern Cross #whoknew,’ another wrote.
‘Everyone in Australia needs to know about this,’ a third added.
The integration of the Southern Cross was made in 1991 after market research revealed the bank was perceived as old-fashioned and outdated.
Unveiling the new logo 32 years ago, the bank described it as bold, strong, modern and progressive.
‘The iconic diamond is so recognisable that Commonwealth Bank often uses it in advertisements without mentioning its name,’ the logo expert said.
‘Commonwealth Bank spent a lot of money on the new logo because it considered this identity element to be strategically important for working with clients.’
