Her happy ending: Pit bull ‘Cinderella’ adopted after more than 1,000 days in LA shelter

A dog fittingly named “Cinderella” will have a chance to live out her “happily ever after” with her new family after spending more than 1,000 days in Los Angeles animal shelter.

In total, the pooch spent 1,139 days at the spcaLA PD Pitchford Companion Animal Village & Education Center in Long Beach, the organization announced Thursday.

“News of her adoption was a gift to the staff and volunteers … who have cared for her for the last three years,” it said in a statement.

Cinderella was moved to spcaLA’s Pitchford center from Long Beach Animal Care Services in August 2020, organization officials said.

“Cinderella” was adopted after three years of waiting, the spcaLA announced.

Since she arrived, she’s spent hundreds of hours in behavioral training as she waited for Prince Charming to take her away.

In October 2022, Cinderella had surgery for a cranial cruciate tear, a $3,000 procedure funded by donations from spcaLA supporters.

She spent one month recovering in foster care in the home of an spcaLA Volunteer.

The dog underwent hundreds of hours of training and surgery before her adoption.

“Staff did an excellent job keeping Cinderella healthy and joyful while she was at spcaLA,” said its President Madeline Bernstein.

Cinderella went so long without finding a home because she’s a pit bull and, at 6 years old, is no longer a puppy — “two things she could do nothing about,” the organization said.

After several appearances on local television, she still was unable to attract an adopter.

Her wish was granted, however, when a family came to the shelter and asked, “Who has been here the longest?”

Cinderella was the perfect fit. She now lives with a family of three and four cats.
