Streets have been locked down in Cairns this morning after a helicopter crashed into a hotel roof.

The hotel was evacuated as a precaution and no injuries were suffered by people on the ground.

An exclusion zone is in place encompassing the Esplanade, Minnie Street, Abbott Street, and Florence Street.

People are advised to avoid the area.

A police investigation is underway.
