The Australian Hockeyroos’ Olympic campaign is over after a shock quarter-final loss to China.
The Aussie women went into the must-win clash as hot favourites but went down 3-2 against eighth ranked China, who were at one stage, led 3-1.
The Hockeyroos have won three gold medals but haven’t been on the podium since their last gold medal in Sydney 24 years ago.
They finished fifth in 2004, 2008 and 2012 and sixth at Rio 2016 and three years ago in Tokyo.
The heartbreak comes just hours after Australian mens side also bowed out in their quarter-final against the Netherlands.
More to come
