Three passengers onboard a Qantas flight from Hawaii to Sydney have been hospitalised after the flight experienced ‘severe turbulence’.

Hawaiian Airlines flight HA451 was hit with strong winds around five hours into its nine-hour and forty-five minute flight on Friday.

Emergency services met those onboard as the plane landed just before 8pm at Sydney Airport.

The plane was carrying 163 passengers and 12 crew members.

NSW Ambulance confirmed that 12 people were assessed at the scene before three were rushed to hospital.

‘(The) service from Honolulu to Sydney encountered unexpected severe turbulence,’ a spokesperson for the airline told 7NEWS.

‘Four passengers and three flight attendants were initially treated by a doctor on board and our crew members, in consultation with physicians on the ground.’

‘Two passengers were taken to St George and one passenger was taken to Prince of Wales,’ a spokesperson said.

The specific plane is now undergoing a ‘thorough inspection’, which will impact the departure time of flight HA452 from Sydney to Honolulu.

More to come.
