The hand heart: It’s not just for sorority girls’ Instagram pics anymore.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has commandeered the cringey photo pose for himself, flashing it nearly every time the camera lens has turned his way this summer.
His fascination with the gesture — in which two people make a rough “C” with their fingers, then hold them against each other to form an improvised heart — has in turn fascinated the public.
For most of the first 18 months of his term, the mayor went with the more traditional thumbs-up pose, according to City & State New York.
But June 6, Adams made a hand heart with another person at the New York City Youth Leadership Council Summit, the outlet said.
And he hasn’t looked back since.
Hizzoner has made hand hearts with attendees at official events, a meeting with rap mogul Diddy and even an NYPD robot that could not reciprocate because it has no arms, hands or fingers — which left the mayor in an awkward pose in which he seemed to be sinking a claw into the machine’s flank.
The pose hasn’t particularly caught on elsewhere among other leading mayoral pols, at least yet.
