A body has been found inside a Melbourne home after fire tore through the building early on Sunday.
Emergency services were called to the Power Street home in Saint Albans at 2.40am, and arrived to find the single storey weather board house consumed by fire and a neighbouring three-storey apartment building under threat.
Residents from nearby properties were evacuated as 30 firefighters fought for 50 minutes to extinguish the blaze.
One person was located decesased within the home, with emergency services yet to release details about the person.
A crime scene has been established and arson chemist will attend the scene later today.
The neighbouring building was heavily impacted by smoke with 3 of the townhouses sustaining minor fire damage. Police are assisting with alternative accommodation for some of the occupants.
