Griffin Canning crumbles to ground, exits in potential Mets injury catastrophe

The Mets have encountered plenty of rotation problems the last few weeks, and they added another one to the list Thursday.

Griffin Canning crumbled to the ground and hobbled off the field — with help on both sides — in the third inning after appearing to land awkwardly following a pitch.

Braves infielder Nick Allen hit a grounder to Francisco Lindor with two outs in the frame, and after throwing the pitch and taking a step to his right, Canning — a pitching success story for the Mets to start the season before struggling recently — began limping and eventually fell to the grass in obvious pain.

Canning, who entered with a 3.91 ERA, had allowed just one hit and struck out three batters through 2 ⅔ innings, and Austin Warren replaced him out of the bullpen.

This is a developing story
