A leading criminal defence lawyer has been shot outside a house in Sydney’s south-west in a ‘targeted’ shooting.
Emergency services were called to a home on Narelle Crescent, Greenacre shortly before 10.30am on Wednesday after solicitor Mahmoud Abbas, 31, was shot.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Mr Abbas was gunned down on the same street where underworld figure Mahmoud ‘Brownie’ Ahmad was shot dead in April 2022.

Footage from the scene shows the street cordoned off with several police cars and an ambulance in attendance.
‘Investigations are in their infancy; however it’s believed to be a targeted incident,’ a police statement read.
Local detectives are being assisted by the State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups and Raptor Squad in the investigations.
It comes just days after three people were shot in the same suburb in an industrial area at 2.15am on Sunday.
Mr Abbas has represented a range of high profile Sydney identities including former Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer, who is not suggested to have any link to the shooting.
