A woman has been bitten by a snake at a beach in Sydney.

The woman, in her 30s, was walking in bushland next to Great Mackerel Beach in the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park when she was bitten at about 10.30am on Friday.

It’s understood she stepped on the animal, leading it to bite her, 7News reported.

It is unclear what species of snake bit the woman but it was said to be ‘dark-coloured’, suggesting it could have been a deadly brown snake.

The woman was airlifted to Northern Beaches Hospital in a stable condition.
