There are grave fears for a man after a suspected crocodile attack in Far North Queensland.

Emergency services were called about 2pm and quickly arrived at the scene in Cooktown, near the Annan River Bridge.

9News understands the man in his 40’s was fishing with his family when he slipped and was grabbed by a crocodile.

The man was reportedly dragged underneath the water and has not resurfaced.

The call for help came from the man’s wife, prompting the emergency response and a search operation getting underway.

However, authorities hold grave fears for the man’s safety.

Rangers and police remain at the scene, while paramedics have been told to stand down.
