The upgraded travel advice for Australians comes amid growing unrest in the northeast state of Manipur.
”Curfews and restrictions continue in parts of Manipur following violent demonstrations, resulting in casualties. Security agencies have increased their presence in the region,” Smartraveller said.
“Mobile internet services remain suspended, and transport services have been disrupted.
“Further restrictions may be imposed at short notice.”

Australians in Manipur should avoid demonstrations and large public gatherings, follow the advice of local authorities, take official warnings seriously and monitor local media for updates.
Clashes in Manipur since early May between two dominant ethnic groups have killed over 150 people and displaced more than 50,000.
The conflict in Manipur erupted after the minority Christian Kukis protested a demand by mostly Hindu Meiteis for a special status that would let them buy land in the hills populated by Kukis and other tribal groups and get a share of government jobs.
