Victoria has been hit by wild weather with intense storms sweeping across the state.

The thunderstorms were accompanied by heavy rain, flash flooding, strong winds and huge hailstones.

The SES received more than 130 calls within a few hours today, with Bendigo the worst hit, copping hail stones the size of golf balls.

The thunderstorm stranded Steve and Christine Gaunt in their Bendigo home, helpless as five cars and their caravan were pelted.

“It was quite scary actually, it just came down with such force,” Christine said.

“The hail was just so big, it was hitting the ground and hitting big mud splashes.”

“The spouts were overflowing; it was like a waterfall, it punched holes in the skylight, it’s like a war zone outside,” Steve added.

Meteorologist Miriam Bradbury said there were reports of hail measuring five to six centimetres

“Many of those storms became severe across the western districts of Melbourne with flash flooding and large- to giant-sized hail observed in Bendigo,” Bradbury said.

At Bridgewater, trying to keep cars undercover was no match for the ice from the sky.

White Hills lived up to it’s name, with a white footy field full of hail, cancelling the afternoon game.

Streets flooded at Craigeburn with water climbing up cars at Croydon.
