A teenager has died after falling 15m into a river on the Gold Coast.

Emergency services received reports of the incident on the Coomera River near Riverbreeze Crescent, in Maudsland, about 6.40pm on Sunday.

An 18-year-old man was found at the scene and succumbed to his injuries despite the best efforts of first responders.

The teenager is understood to have been using a rope swing on a nearby embankment before falling into the river.

A desperate search for the young man was launched by the Queensland Fire Department, who deployed a rubber dinghy to traverse the river.

Queensland Police are not treating the death as suspicious and will prepare a report for the coroner.
