A 17-year-old girl has drowned and a search is under way for a 17-year-old boy who went in to help at a swimming spot in south-east Queensland.
Emergency services were called to Wappa Falls on the Sunshine Coast hinterland at 2.30pm today after the pair didn’t resurface.
Queensland Police Service acting Inspector John Mahoney said a woman got into difficulty and her friend jumped in to help.
”The body of the 17-year-old female has been located a short distance from Wappa Falls, and the 17-year-old boy remains missing,” he said.
The popular spot has signs warning of deep water, currents, slippery rocks and flooding.
