Giants have big plans for Darius Alexander’s ‘savage’ potential

The text message from his boss dinged on Vince Kehres’ phone only a couple of days into his new job as Toledo’s defensive coordinator.

Head coach Jason Candle didn’t send any words. Just a high school football highlight video of “the rare breed of a great big human who can move,” as Kehres says.

“I don’t even know who I’m looking at,” Kehres recalled to The Post through laughter. “I thought he was asking me, ‘Should we recruit this guy?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, I like this kid.’ And he says, ‘If you like him, you got him. He’s on our team right now — playing offensive tackle.’ ”

That’s how, in 2020, Darius Alexander — recruited as a defensive tackle and reluctantly switched to offensive line as a freshman — restarted his journey to becoming a third-round pick of the Giants.
