Giants get receiver help for Daniel Jones by selecting Jalin Hyatt in NFL Draft’s third round

This much is clear: General manager Joe Schoen will trade up to get the player he covets.

He did it Friday night, moving up from No. 89 to No. 73 in the third round of the NFL Draft and then selected wide receiver Jalin Hyatt of Tennessee, sending their third round pick and a fourth round pick (No 128 overall) to the Rams.

In the first round, Schoen moved up one spot, from 25 to 24, to land cornerback Deonte Banks.

Hyatt was a player many thought would be off the board before this.

The Giants felt this way as well, which is why they felt it was necessary to move up 16 spots.

Hyatt at 6-foot and 185 has good size and great speed that should make him an immediate deep threat for Daniel Jones.

In his one year as a starter for the Volunteers, Hyatt caught 67 passes for 1,267 yards – a gaudy average of 18.8 yards power reception – and 15 touchdowns.

He hauled in five touchdown passes against Alabama.

That production put him on the map and convinced the Giants he could be an asset to their receiver corps.

Did you think head coach Brian Daboll was going to watch the first two rounds of the draft go by not find a weapon for Jones?

Hyatt joins Darius Slayton, Isaiah Hodgins, possibly Sterling Shepard and newcomers Parris Campbell and Jamison Crowder in a receiver room that has some talent and versatility but is in need of a leader of the pack.

The Giants this offseason also added pass-catching tight end Darren Waller in a trade with the Raiders.
