An Italian travel blogger has pleaded guilty to causing the deaths of a woman and her elderly parents in a car crash while on his honeymoon in South Australia.

Gabriele Cairo, 28, faced Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday where he admitted to three counts of causing death by dangerous driving in Everard Central, in the state’s mid north region on October 31 last year.

Cairo was behind the wheel of a van when it collided with a Honda Civic that was carrying Cynthia Clark, 84, her husband John, 86, and their 54-year-old daughter Jacquie.

Mrs Clark and her daughter died at the scene of the crash while Mr Clarke, who was in the rear of the Honda, suffered critical injuries and was flown to hospital for treatment.

He died a few days later.

Cairo also pleaded guilty to causing serious harm to his wife Elena Perrone, who was also in the van and taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Ms Perrone wept in court while her husband admitted to the charges.

The couple, from Italy, had been celebrating their recent marriage during a trip to South Australia at the time of the crash.

A charge of aggravated driving without due car was withdrawn during court on Tuesday, with Cairo’s lawyer asking for sentencing to be as soon as possible.

His lawyer said Cairo was ‘devastated’ by the events.

Cairo and members of the Clark family declined to speak outside of court.

The 28-year-old will remain on bail until his next appearance in July.
