An alleged gunman with a grenade tattooed on his face has been killed following a dramatic standoff with police after spending three days on the run.
Stanley Turvey, 33, was shot during the standoff along Turnbull Road in Ardmona, 184kms north of Melbourne at 10:15am on Wednesday.
Turvey was declared dead at the scene of the major police operation after paramedics unsuccessfully attempted to revive him.
The manhunt began after Turvey allegedly fired a gun as police attempted to arrest him at a property at Katandra West, in Victoria’s north, at midday on Monday.
Police had issued a warrant for his arrest after Turvey allegedly committed a string of crimes including armed robbery, kidnap, and assault on a woman in Yarrawonga.

Officers from Victoria Police’s Special Operations Group located Turvey in Ardmona, near Shepparton, after a member of the public tipped them off.
After arriving at the address they confirmed that the fugitive was armed before critically shooting him.
The hunt began on Monday after police allege that Turvey approached detectives with a gun when they arrived at a property in Katandra West, in northern Victoria.
Officers challenged Turvey to drop his weapon but he allegedly fired two shots into the air before fleeing the property in a car.
Neighbour Dianne said Turvey was shirtless and yelling as he faced off with police.
‘All the police were crouched down with their guns pulled,’ she told 9News.
‘They kept saying to him, “Put your weapon down and put your hands behind your head.”
‘And then he just walked back and he said, “I’m not f***ing going back to jail again”.’
Two officers pursued Turvey but lost control of their vehicle on Creighton Road before it rolled.

The officers were taken to Goulburn Valley Health hospital with minor injuries and have since been released.
Turvey’s getaway vehicle, a white 2020 Toyota HiLux ute, was located on Fraser Street in Tatura near Shepparton in the state’s north on Tuesday afternoon.
Police believe that Turvey stole the ute before ditching it after the chase.
Turvey also stopped at a random residence in Youanmite during his getaway where he allegedly forced a man at gunpoint to drive to Finley, in New South Wale’s Riverina region.
The man was not harmed and he was released when the pair arrived at their location.
Turvey had a property in Finley that police had swarmed on Monday night shortly after his initial getaway.
CCTV footage shows heavily armed officers walking around the home calling for Turvey to turn himself in.

‘Your house is surrounded by heavily armed police,’ officers shouted.
‘Come to the front door with your hands in the air.’
On Tuesday afternoon Turvey’s uncle pleaded with his nephew to turn himself in before things turned ugly.
‘If you’re listening, hand yourself in, mate, before it gets too bad. Do it for your father,’ he said.
‘There’s probably only one way you can look at it. It’s going to end badly.’
By Wednesday afternoon, police had announced his death on via a press release.

‘A fatal police shooting has occurred this morning in the search for Stanley Turvey who was wanted on warrant,’ Sergeant Anita Brens said in a statement.
‘Homicide Squad detectives will investigate the incident with oversight by Professional Standards Command, as per standard procedure.
Police thanked members of the public who helped them locate the fugitive and said that the state’s coroner had been notified of his death.
Turvey had regularly boasted on social media about being part of an outlawed motorcycle gang.
One video shared to Facebook shows Turvey holding a dog’s leash which is tied to a collar around a man’s neck.
He is seen holding a knife in the other hand while he shouts orders at the man, who is on all fours, and threatens to cut his tongue out.
When the man does not comply with Turvey’s orders, he is seen pulling on the leash sharply.
In another video shared to Facebook, Turvey is seen threatening a man, asking him to meet him in Shepparton for a gunfight.
‘Any time you want to have a go, come to Shepparton,’ the post reads.
‘Bring whoever you like and whatever little cap gun you like because if you don’t pull the trigger and kill me, I’ll bash you to death really f—- easy.’
Turvey claimed to be part of the Finks OMCG after sharing photos of the dead bikie gang boss Brent Reker to his Facebook page in February.
‘That’s my big brother… Finks MC Australia is my club and my brother is my fam,’ Turvey wrote.
‘I’ll give my life to back up my brother and have a happy death.’
