A fresh plea has been issued by detectives over the disappearance of Victorian man Jake Lyons, who went missing a decade ago.
To mark the 10th anniversary of Lyons’ disappearance, Missing Persons Squad detectives are appealing for public assistance.
Lyons, then aged 20, was last seen at his Dandenong home in Scullin Street about 9am on August 25, 2014.
He lived at the property with his father Rick, who told police he last saw his son as he left for work in the city that morning.
Police say a friend of Lyons arrived at the home on Scullin Street to pick him up as the pair had planned to look at rental properties together.
The friend told police he found the front door open and no sign of Lyons.
When Rick returned home at 7pm that day, he found his silver 2006 Holden Astra station wagon was gone and his son was not home.
Lyons was reported missing on August 28.
Several days later, on August 31, the Holden Astra was found at Warner Reserve in Springvale.
In the past 10 years, there have been no sightings of Lyons and his phone and bank accounts have not been accessed.
Police say his disappearance is “extremely out of character”.
Detectives have re-released images of Lyons in the hope someone will come forward with information about his whereabouts.
“Jake’s disappearance remains a mystery to investigators and his family, even 10 years on from when he was last seen,” Detective Acting Inspector Anthony Combridge said.
“Sadly, there have been no sightings of Jake during the last decade and we know he hasn’t accessed his phone or bank accounts. His disappearance is still considered to be extremely out of character and we remain open to all possibilities, including that Jake may have met with foul play.
“Even the smallest new detail could lead to a breakthrough and provide Jake’s family with some answers.”
