Western and Southern Australia will feel the brunt of the heat today, with the Bureau of Meteorology warning residents in each state to brace for extreme temperatures, with the “worst heat in four years” set to make life uncomfortable for people in SA particularly.

A total fire ban has been declared for the Mount Lofty Ranges today as crews brace for extreme conditions.

In WA, a fire warning is place for the Karroun, Lockwood, Roe, Lakes, Fitzgerald Coast, Fitzgerald Inland, Esperance Coast and Esperance Inland districts.

Conditions will sizzle throughout both states today, with Perth metro expected to see temperatures of above 30 degrees, while in Adelaide it’s expected to reach 34 degrees today before the city sweats through an sticky 38 degrees on Thursday.

Meanwhile, it’ll be humid and cloudy in Sydney today, with temperatures expected to sit at 27 degrees, with localised storms possible throughout parts the metro central west and eastern areas of the state later this afternoon.

After a rainy day yesterday, Queenslanders will face slightly more settled conditions today, with a cloudy 28 degrees expected in Brisbane. 

A total of nine flood warnings are also in place across the state. 

In Melbourne, residents will also feel the humidity, but temperatures will be cooler with tops of 22 degrees expected.

Severe marine wind warnings also remain in place in every Australian jurisdiction besides the Northern Territory and Queensland.
