A French travel blogger who climbed a 60-storey building in Melbourne’s CBD yesterday is set to remain in custody until next week.

Emergency services were called to a building on A’Beckett Street about 7.30am after Anthony Andolfo was allegedly observed climbing without any safety equipment.

The incident quickly gained attention from onlookers, with dozens stopping to watch the stunt.

The 29-year-old man was quickly arrested at the scene after climbing to the top and was taken in handcuffs to a police van.

When asked why he performed the stunt, he told 9News, “Because I can.”

Andolfo was charged with multiple offences including reckless conduct endangering life, which could hold a maximum prison sentence of five years.

The court heard 29-year-old was an experienced climber and had a flight booked out of Australia today.

His friend, Hugo Frohlinger, a 25-year-old French national was also arrested at the scene after filming the incident using a drone.

He accepted the conviction and was fined $3000.
