Humphries, who died on April 22 this year, aged 89, was an entertainment icon for decades, known best for characters such as Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson.

His state memorial will be held at the Sydney Opera House at 11am on Friday, December 15.

Limited free tickets have also been made available to the public.

People will be allowed to book a maximum of two apiece.

An online queueing system will be in place, and people are urged to only queue on one browser.

On the day of the memorial, Opera House doors will open at 10.15am, and ticketholders are expected to be seated by 10.45. Latecomers will not be accommodated.

For those who miss out on a ticket, the memorial will be streamed online.
