A gang of hammer-wielding teenagers has carried out another crime spree across Melbourne.

The four boys smashed their way into a supermarket and a number of service stations and stole $40,000 worth of cigarettes.

The rampage began at an IGA in Macleod in Melbourne’s north-east where the group forced their way behind the counter, towering over two female staff.

One hooded male pulled out a hammer and started swinging it, in an attempt to unlock a cabinet of cigarettes.

He gave up, and after his friend tried and failed, they left with thousands of dollars in a till.

The boys then robbed three service stations in Doncaster East, Kilsyth and Murrumbeena.

They took 150 packets at an Astron service station in Murrumbeena too.

Victoria Police are investigating whether their getaway car was stolen during an aggravated burglary in Warranwood on Friday.

“We now have these repeat offenders basically mocking Victoria’s justice system,” Opposition Leader John Pesutto said today.

“They’re laughing at Victoria’s justice system.”
