Four people have been hospitalised and dozens more have been evacuated after a unit fire in inner Sydney.

The fire broke out at 12.05am at an apartment complex on Crown Street in Surry Hills.

Emergency services said the entire building was “well alight” when fire crews arrived.

Approximately 30 residents were evacuated from the building with four people treated by paramedics.

They were taken to St Vincent’s Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for further assessment.

The fire was extinguished by FRNSW but the building was destroyed.

No other injuries were reported.

An investigation is underway.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
