Four people have died on the Newell Highway (pictured) after two vehicles collided

Four people have died and one man has been left fighting for life in hospital after a horror crash southwest of Dubbo on Friday night.

Emergency services were called to the Newell Highway at 9.20pm to discover a Toyota Hilux ute and a Toyota HiAce van had collided on the interstate road link – about 30km from the regional city in east-central NSW. 

Two men in the ute – aged 18 and 19 and and a man and a woman in the van, both 57, all died at the scene and are yet to be formally identified. 

A fourth man, who was driving one of the vehicles, was taken to Dubbo Hospital with suspected leg injuries.

‘Police established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the crash,’ a NSW Police spokesman said on Saturday. 

‘A report will be prepared for the corner.’

The Newell Highway has reopened in both directions between Dubbo and Tomingley.

Motorists have are advised to allow extra time as emergency services and traffic crews remain at the scene.

The crash take the state’s road toll to 248 this year.

Up to 10,793 people have been seriously injured on NSW roads this year.
