A former social housing block perched on prime real estate next to the Sydney Harbour Bridge has been transformed into luxury new apartments.

While the Sirius building remains brutalist from the outside, it now houses 75 unique apartments fitted with timber, marble and bronze.

9News can share an exclusive look inside the development.

“I think we’ve produced something spectacular for Sydney,” Dedico Development Services’ director John Green said.

“It was really important being able to show the building as it was and differentiate between old and new.”

The new and distinctive copper pods, which took about 12 months to install, will slowly age with the building and eventually turn green.

Prefabricated balconies were carefully craned into place to display a stunning view of the city and harbour.

Some of the apartments have an almost 360-degree view.

“One of the best features of the building, you get these living dining rooms that go right through from east to west,” Green said.

The building housed people of low and middle incomes before it was controversially sold in 2019 by the former NSW government for $150 million under the unfulfilled promise the funds would be used to boost housing stock.

The long-term residents were consequently forced to leave.

New residents are, now, weeks away from moving into the transformed building.

A handful of the new apartments have already sold, ranging from $1.6 million up to $35 million.
