There were concerns over his welfare.

After extensive searches, Laybutt’s silver Mercedes was found at shops in Cabarita about 11.30am on Saturday.

A day later, police found a body believed to be the former footballer in the bushland near Cabarita.

“The circumstances surrounding his death are not being treated as suspicious,” police said today.

A report is being prepared for the Coroner.

Football New South Wales said they were “saddened” to hear the news of his “tragic passing”.

“Representing the country on 15 occasions, Stephen played in the NSL with the Wollongong Wolves and Sydney Olympic as well as the Brisbane Strikers and Parramatta Power,” the sporting body said.
