A former federal Labor candidate, who it’s believed was in a relationship with Queensland Attorney-General Yvette D’ath, has been charged with stalking a staffer.

Michael Denton, who ran for Labor in the seat of Petrie at the last election has been charged with stalking to harass, intimidate or abuse a woman working for D’ath.

9News has chosen not to name the staffer.

9News understands D’ath was in a relationship with Denton at the same time as he was accused of stalking her staffer.

There are no allegations of any wrongdoing against D’ath, who first learnt of the charge when approached by 9News earlier in the week.

9News understands she immediately ended the relationship when she was informed of the charge.

Sources say the context of that relationship will form a part of the police case.

Denton is yet to enter a plea and has also not responded to questions about the matter but is due to face court again on March 11.
