A former Collingwood player has been charged after two people were killed following a crash in Western Australia on Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to the Brand Highway in Coolijarloo near Catby around 9am, after reports of a crash between two cars and a road train towing two trailers.

Police allege Shannon Cox, 38, was behind the wheel of the Toyota when it collided with a Suzuki hatchback, killing two women in their 80s.

A 12-year-old girl who was a passenger in the Toyota was also injured.

Cox has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death and remains in custody.
