Footy star Ollie Henry suffers horrendous injury – and if you're a bloke it'll make you wince

Geelong young gun Ollie Henry will miss the next two games after suffering a gruesome injury in Friday’s night loss against Richmond.

The forward ruptured his testicle after colliding with a Tigers player late in the reigning premiers’ 24-point loss at the MCG.

The ruptured has since been addressed, but Henry will be sidelined for the next two weeks.

‘Ollie Henry, late in the game had a testicular rupture from a collision,’ said Geelong football boss Simon Lloyd. 

‘Basically, post-game he reported it to the club medicos and he has had that repaired to he will miss a couple of weeks.’

Henry’s place in the squad for the game against Fremantle at Optus Stadium on Saturday night could be taken by his elder brother Jack, who has recovered from a broken foot.

All-Australian Tyson Stengle is also ready to return after recovering from a broken arm, while Brad Close is expected to slot back into the team after serving a one-match suspension.

Henry’s injury is not uncommon in high-contact sports such as footy and rugby league.

Former Geelong assistant coach James Kelly underwent surgery on a ruptured testicle back in 2015, while North Melbourne defender Scott Thompson and Collingwood gun Steele Sidebottom suffered the same injury in 2019.

Meanwhile, Penrith star Spencer Leniu ruptured his testicle in training last Wednesday after tackling teammate Eddie Blacker.

The Panthers officially ruled the 22-year-old out of the game against the Broncos on Thursday night and shut the door on any lingering hope Leniu may feature for New South Wales in Origin I on May 31.

‘At this point there’s no way he will be right for Origin, the doctors simply won’t clear him,’ Panthers chief physio Pete Green told the Sydney Morning Herald.

‘We’re racing the clock to have him ready for the Dragons game after our bye in round 14. So there’s no way the urologist will clear him any earlier than that.

‘He’s still on light duties in the gym, he will run for the first time on Thursday, then we’ll introduce a bit more intense running skills next week. 

‘We still have to be careful with any gym work that requires applying abdominal pressure – you can’t do that too early.’
