The food delivery rider killed in a hit-and-run in Port Melbourne earlier this week has been remembered as an adventurous young man.

Juan Ignacio, who was living in Melbourne with his girlfriend while on a working holiday from Chile, will be deeply missed by his family, who told 9News they were devastated.

“My family is broke with this loss, he was only 27 years old,” his uncle Manuel José Correa said.

Ignacio who worked as a DoorDash delivery rider was travelling home when he was hit on Tuesday night.

“He was a really nice person, really well behaviour, really close with his family very friendly,” Correa said.

Dylan Wilson, 32, has been charged with failing to render assistance after he allegedly fled the crash scene.

He later handed himself into police.

Wilson faced court today and was supported by his mum, and received bail.

A DoorDash spokesperson said they were “absolutely devastated by this tragic loss of life”.

“Our hearts are with the riders’ loved ones during this horrible tragedy,” the spokesperson said.”We have reached out to Victoria Police to assist with bringing those responsible to justice and assist with any investigation.”

Ignatio’s family are on their way to Australia and hope his death serves as a warning that more needs to be done to improve the safety of delivery riders both here and overseas.

“We don’t want revenge, we just want justice and we want to know what happened,” Ignacio said.

“He told to my sister every day ‘I love you mum’ and I guess he was a very good human being.”
